Part and Parcel Exhibit

At first it was a project to practice color theory and work in oil paint, which was never prominent in my career. But soon into the first works, it was clear that this is what I had been waiting for all along. The textured surfaces that I found and photographed along our travels were finally getting to speak, and they spoke in color.

In my world, numbers have colors, and colors make sound. There is a name and big study about this, but not right now. Right now is about letting the colors do the talking.When I find these crusty vignettes out in the wild, I am drawn to their textures, but my mind is already fast at work, breaking down the colors into pixels. Some of my best finds have been the textures or patterns that no one seems to notice, or they notice but don’t care. These were the most rewarding.
